Shell candle


Cylindrical candle colour white or beige
then heat a half full saucepan of water to boiling point, then turn it down to a gentle simmer
place wax in a heat proof bowl
put it on top of the saucepan and leave to melt
wrap ice cubes in tea towel and smash with a rolling pin
thread the wick of a shopbought candle trough the tip of a cylindrical mould
hold the candle upright and pack the space between the mould and candle with ice and medium sized shells
pour wax into the mould do it sits a few centimetres
above the base of the candle
place the mould in a bowl so the ice cubes can drain as they melt
leave to set for 2 hours then remove the candle fron the mould
the holes left by the ice cubes can be enlarged and the shells exposed further by applying heat
place the candle on a heat proof non flammable surface and use the flame from a versatip to melt the wax in the required areas
apply just a little heat at a time to ensure the wax is not over heated
embellish the design with string ribbon and charms marine
